Kitchen Garden

2016 Term 1 News

Have a look at the photos and, if you can, please visit the garden. We have a lot of things growing. We have tomatoes, green beans, broad beans, cantaloupe, zucchini, potatoes and strawberries. We are busy harvesting. Some of the children have taken things home or eaten them in the garden. Some senior children will be cooking next week, Zucchini spaghetti and garlic bread. Gardening happens every Tuesday and Wednesday morning, and the garden club is open every Tuesday and Wednesday lunch time. If you have spare time I would love to have helpers in the garden. Drop in and see me.

Two important events this term are Clean Up Australia Day and National Ride Safely to School Day. They are both on Friday 4th March. Children can ride or walk to school to participate on the day. Look out for more information in the newsletter and at assembly. Children will also be helping clean up Lysterfield PS. We do this all the time but this is a special day when the whole school participates. Gloves, tongs, buckets and plastic bags are useful to bring on that day.

I am looking forward to announcing the Sustainability and Garden leaders soon. Their main campaign for term 1 will be a mobile phone recycling drive to help the Jane Goodall foundation and support the protection of chimpanzee’s and their habitat.

You can find lots of information weekly about what’s happening at Lysterfield in the newsletter.
