Students at Lysterfield Primary School belong to one of four houses whose names are derived from indigenous names for animals: Wadherrang, Warrin, Marlu and Guuguubarra

Students represent their house in various activities including swimming, athletics and cross-country. They earn points for their house through achievements and demonstration of school values throughout the school. House points are collected weekly and announced at assembly with the overall house winner announced at the final assembly of the school year. A perpetual trophy is awarded each year to the winning House. Year 6 students are able to apply to be House Captains of their house and are voted in at the beginning of each year.
